.. _admins: Instructions for Admins ======================= Subgroup Structure ------------------ All projects should be created in subgroups, so the group leaders can keep the overview. ---- Visibility ---------- The SWW-group and subgroups have "public" visibility. This makes it possible to make projects publicly accessible. When starting a new project, select visibility "private" and leave it up to the user to make it public. The settings can be changed anytime under **Settings → General → Visibility**. ---- Admin: Adding a new member to the GitLab -------------------------------------------- 1. User requests login by logging into gitlab.eawag.ch with EDU-ID 2. Confirm the invitation and assign "Reporter" permissions under: :: Groups → SWW → Manage → Members → Invite members or Groups → SWW → Manage → Members → Invite members 3. Assign additional permissions based on the user’s expected projects. ---- Admin / Subgroup Admin: Granting subgroup or project permissions ---------------------------------------------------------------- To grant permissions: - Navigate to the subgroup or project and invite members with the desired permissions. - Conditions: - Permissions cannot be lower than those of the parent group. - You need "Maintainer" or "Owner" rights for the subgroup/project. - You cannot grant higher permissions than you have. ---- Roles ----- There are three different roles in the SWW GitLab: .. list-table:: :header-rows: 1 * - Role - People - Permissions - Tasks * - SWW/ENG-Admin - Technical Support - Owner of the Group SWW/ENG - Create subgroups, manage subgroup permissions and members, create repositories in subgroups, manage repository members and permissions * - Subgroup-Admins - Group Leaders, Data Managers - Owner of subgroups corresponding to departments. - Manage subgroup permissions and memberships, create projects in subgroups, remove unwanted projects * - General Users - PhDs, Master Students, Research Assistants - Maintainer of repositories, Reporter of Group SWW / ENG - Maintain projects ---- This project lies under https://gitlab.eawag.ch/sww/sww-gitlab-docs.
